PlayStation Font

Sony's SST is the documented corporate and product typeface.

SST is the clearest documented answer to questions about PlayStation interface and communication typography. Sony developed the family with Monotype for consistent use across its global products, including PlayStation hardware. It should not be confused with the separately drawn PlayStation symbol and wordmarks. This guide is independent of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

How the identification holds up

SST is the documented product typeface

Confidence: high for corporate and product typography. Sony's design history says SST was created as an original company-wide family and was scheduled for use on PlayStation 4, while Monotype documents the joint design process and its 93-language scope. The family combines the firm geometry associated with Helvetica and the readable, open forms associated with Frutiger.

Corporate text and logo artwork are different

SST's verified role does not mean the PlayStation family mark can be reproduced by typing its name in SST. Sony describes SST as a proprietary corporate typeface across packaging, interfaces, manuals, and other touchpoints. The marks and font software remain controlled assets, so identification alone provides no redistribution or branding permission.
